EdDProfile
My professional background is in nursing and midwifery. I completed degrees in life sciences, applied pharmacology and pathology, nurse education. In 2004, I received a Doctorate in Education after examining nurse prescribing education and the experience of nurses studying to become nurse prescribers. I subsequently researched and published my findings in relation to. nurse prescribing education. More recently, my research interests have concentrated on hormone-dependent cancers, particularly breast cancer and the lived experience of women from ethnic minorities such as Asian and Black women.
Grants funded by the British Council and British Academy allowed me to undertake comparison studies in the UK and Pakistan that investigated the lived experience of breast cancer in Muslim women. Findings from these studies have been published in high impact journals, textbooks and and presented at an International Breast Cancer Conference.
In addition to this, I also focus my writing and research in three additional areas; critical thinking in graduate education, medication management and older people and the emotional labour of health and social care professionals, particularly nurses with an oncology background and social workers. This is an area where there is a paucity of innovative, comparable research.
