I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1982, following which I worked in hospitals, in acute and long-term mental health, general medicine, elderly care and head injuries. I went on to work for social services departments, providing community occupational therapy services to people with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions. I obtained a BSc honours degree in human sciences in 1988, and a Masters degree in neurorehabilitation in 1997. I took up my post as lecturer in occupational therapy in 1989, and became Programme Leader for the undergraduate OT programme in 2008. I have been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2002.

Research interests
Area of research interest: the relationship between physical activity and health in old age. I also have an interest in assessment of student learning.
