Profile
I have taught on the Social work programme at Brunel since 2006.
Prior to this I have had substantial experience as a social work practitioner and manager, having worked in a wide variety of social work settings, mostly in Local Authority Children’s Services. I have managed and supervised social workers in teams, working with Looked After Children, Children in Need and Child Protection. I have wide experience of the dilemmas that face front line practitioners in responding to complex and emotionally demanding practice issues. I am strongly committed to the values of the profession and to promoting these in the face of increased pressure from managerial and market driven approaches that are colonising the profession.
In addition I am interested in inter-professional learning and practice, and am part of a School wide initiative in this area.
I was BA programme leader from 2007 until January 2011.
