Hand Therapy 2

HH55016 MSc Module 2013

Based on a sound approach to adult education, the course invites students to bring issues from practice to analyse in class. Each module is designed to gradually develop the skills of reflective practice and scientific evaluation.

This programme is a post-qualification Masters Degree (MSc) for occupational therapists and physiotherapists. The programme’s overall aim is to provide professional and personal development for occupational therapists and physiotherapists by offering a Master’s level qualification in hand therapy.

This advanced academic course is one of the few in the UK specialising in hand therapy, and it has been especially designed to meet your needs as a practising therapist.

The programme also offers the option of a postgraduate Certificate/Postgraduate Diploma without the requirements to continue to Masters.

This module is open to occupational therapists and physiotherapists, it may be studied alone as a post graduate short course or part of the MSc Hand Therapy or MSc Occupational Therapy programme. Brunel University has worked with the British Association of Hand Therapy (B.A.H.T.) who allocate this module 5 B.A.H.T. points which can be used towards becoming an accredited Hand Therapist (BAHT).

MAIN AIMS OF THE MODULE

  1. To evaluate a range of assessment strategies relevant to hand therapy in terms of their reliability, validity and applicability.
  2. To critically appraise the evidence base for a range of protocols used for therapeutic interventions in hand therapy and investigate their clinical effectiveness.
