The Enabling the Learning of Others in Social Work Modules
Overview of the Enabling the Learning of Others in Social Work Programme
The Enabling the Learning of Others in Social Work modules are designed to provide candidates with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to in supporting social work students and newly qualified practitioners and other staff.
The modules are suitable for professionals and provides a clear grounding in the role of Practice Educator including facilitating and assessing work-based learning through mentoring, supervision provision, training and other methods crucial to the learning and development of others including social work students, newly qualified social workers and supervisees.
The modules meet the teaching requirements for the linked statements within the Professional Capability Framework (2012), the HCPC Statements of Proficiency, and Values and Ethics for Social Workers (2012) and Practice Educator Professional Standards (2012) - Domains A, B, C and D.
The College of Social Work (2012) outlined the requirements for Practice Educators in the Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS), to involve two stages, commensurating with the different levels of complexity and responsibility in teaching, assessing and supervising social work degree students.
The standards may also be helpful for those supporting and assessing newly qualified social workers, experienced social workers undertaking formal or informal continuing professional development or others engaging in learning and development activities.
Who are the Modules for?
The module is suitable for social work practitioners looking to supervise and assess social work students during a Practice Learning Opportunity within a social care related organisation.
Until September 2015, practitioners qualified in other allied professionals are also able to undertake the module, when it is then expected that all Practice Educators supporting Social Work Students on their first or last placement will be social work qualified.

Registered social workers may also use the modules to fulfil post registration training and learning requirements under the regulatory body. The qualification supports candidates to further develop in the role of Professional Educator under the Professional Capability Framework (TCSW 2012) and to continue to develop a career in the practice education.
Following assessment, registered social workers will achieve 15 Undergraduate Level credits, at Stage 1 and 15 Masters Level Credits at Stage 2. These could be used within the Post Qualifying Specialist level award. They may be accepted at a range of universities offering such awards but they would make the decision to accept this as approved prior learning.
