Centre for Intelligent Data Analysis
CIDA is a leading centre of excellence for multidisciplinary work involving artificial intelligence, dynamic systems, image and signal processing, optimisation, pattern recognition, statistics and visualisation. Research is directed at four key thematic areas: Biomedical Informatics, Systems and Synthetic Biology; Data Mining and Intelligent Systems; Dynamics, Signals and Time Series; Visual Computing.
The work at CIDA has led not only to novel research results published in many leading journals in the field, but also to effective implementation of applications that have been successfully used in practical settings, especially in biology and medicine. Recently, exciting new applications in finance and security have also emerged. We have published over 200 high-quality journal papers, and have held many externally-funded projects including those from the UK research councils, EU, industry and charities. Members of the Centre have also demonstrated leadership in their areas by chairing key conferences, editing first-class journals, winning best paper awards, and giving invited or keynote addresses. CIDA members also founded the biennial symposia on Intelligent Data Analysis, an interdisciplinary study concerned with the effective analysis of data.
Biomedical Informatics, Systems and Synthetic Biology
This research theme is concerned with the management, analysis and interpretation of a variety of biological and medical data to reveal hidden secrets in the health/disease process.
Data Mining and Intelligent Systems
This research theme aims to develop various computationally intelligent techniques that will uncover useful knowledge from large amounts of data.
Visual Computing
This research theme is concerned with the study of broad areas of computer vision, graphics and visualisation.
