Master's courses in the Department of Mathematical Sciences
The Department offers two full-time MSc courses - MSc Computational Mathematics with Modelling and MSc Modelling and Management of Risk. Both courses draw on the Department's research strengths and reputation for delivering high quality Postgraduate courses that will enhance your career prospects and future employability.
Computational Mathematics with Modelling MSc
Full-Time
This course provides a thorough grounding in modern numerical analysis, keeping a balance between the underlying theory and practical applications. The computational aspects of numerical methods are emphasised and supported by laboratory and project work. The modelling addresses diverse topics from science, engineering and finance. Many areas of numerical analysis useful in industry and academia are instructed intensively. This course is delivered by academic staff who have specialist knowledge gained through their applied research and consultative activities.
Modelling and Management of Risk MSc
Full-Time
Analysing market conditions, industry needs, and the emerging regulatory requirements, shows that there is a fast growing global requirement for professionals with skills in risk and optimisation modelling. It is very likely that similar risk control regulations will be introduced in the public sector and utility sectors covering health, transport, energy and telecommunications. It is therefore necessary to extend the concept of optimisation to incorporate mathematical models with quantifiable risk. This MSc pursues theoretical and applied research issues encompassing the growing use of risk and optimisation in diverse sectors.
The knowledgeable and friendly academic staff were always there when needed. I would strongly suggest it to anyone that wants to pursue a career in the financial industry and let’s not forget - have a good time. Dimitris, MSc Modelling and Management of Risk student 2004-05.
