The School is home to two of the UK's highly-rated departments - Information Systems & Computing, and Mathematical Sciences, and has a large and thriving student population of over 1200 undergraduates, over 200 Masters students and 160 PhD students and over 70 academic staff. The School hosts seven world-class research centres in which our academics come together to pursue the cutting-edge research for which they are internationally renowned. We achieved excellent results in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, with more than half of our research activities classified as 'World-Leading' or 'Internationally Excellent', providing an excellent environment for PhD students. Our courses are actively informed by our research activities, ensuring that they are stimulating and highly informative, so that our graduates are ideally prepared to meet the challenges of modern society.
Our mission is to drive forward the theory and practice in our subject areas through the interplay of research and teaching. So, if you are
- a student who wishes to follow one of our undergraduate or masters courses, or to study for a PhD
- an academic who is interested in collaborative research
- someone from industry interested in Continuing Professional Development
