Many congratulations to Rachael Gilder who scooped the Union Member of the Year award at the 2018 Annual Union of Brunel Students Awards.  This award is in recognition of Rachael’s role as Student Representative for the Year 1 group on the MA in Social Work at Brunel.   Rachael had been nominated by fellow students for her work in providing feedback to the university about the course and their experience at Brunel, as well as for taking part in meetings of the Student Experience Committee and Board of Studies.

Responding to her award, Rachael said, “This was thanks to my fellow students who nominated me and must have said some good things for me to have won. I have enjoyed being the student rep and have had support from students, lecturers and support staff associated with the social work programme. I was pleasantly surprised to have won.”

MA Social Work programme lead, Dr Mike Thomas commented, “Achieving a real and meaningful dialogue with students is very important to us at Brunel Social Work.  Rachael has been a very effective representative for her year group and has played a key role in channelling feedback to the academic team.  Rachael always presents clear, well-researched arguments and some of the enhancements we are planning for the next academic year are in response to the student feedback we have received.”

Almost 200 students and staff attended this year’s ceremony where Rachael was given her award.  Find out more about the 2018 Union of Brunel Students Annual Union Awards here: https://brunelstudents.com/news/article/union/Annual-Union-Award-Winners/
