Course details

To enable students to assess health needs in a multi-cultural society and analyse and interpret a variety of factors which influence public health and illness.

To explore students' capacity for partnership and multidisciplinary team working and systematically examine strategies for health promotion and public health practice. 

To enable stdents to develop critical understanding, advanced knowledge and practice skills in health promotion, to include the capacity to engage in health promotion leadership.

Students on this programme are fully trained nurses who wish to become community specialist practitioners

To assist participants to develop their knowledge and skills in the planning, organising, delivering, teaching and evaluating effective programmes for students engaged in specialist practice.

To enhance participants’ individual ability to critically appraise their skills, knowledge in order to, augment and develop their individual teaching performance.

To enable participants to develop skills in the ability to create a challenging and supportive teaching and learning environment for a students.

Specialist Community Public Health Nursing PGDip and MSc

Module details

  • Develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required to practise safely and effectively as a specialist community public health nurse in a different field of practice to that in which the student qualified. These fields of practice included: health visiting; occupational health nursing and school nursing.
  • Search for health needs within a new field of practice.
  • Demonstrate the ability to stimulate an awareness of health needs for client groups within the new field of practice.
  • Recognise how to influence policies affecting health.
  • Undertake the facilitation of health enhancing activities.
  • Demonstrate the achievement of the NMC standard of proficiency as listed in the Portfolio document
