Pedagogy and Professional Practice (PPP)
The Pedagogy and Professional Practice (PPP) research group focuses on two main areas of educational practice:
- Models of effective practice in relation to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. This includes projects in inquiry-based learning across several phases in formal educational settings; modes and means of formative and summative assessment in early years, primary, secondary and university science and mathematics education; broadening access and participation in science and engineering; shifting attitudes towards school science and mathematics; interactions between the sciences and humanities and research into digital literacies and the opportunities that digital play and technology offer both formal and informal education processes.
- Models of effective professional practice in education including projects relating to transition between phases of education and between study and employment; the nature and development of models of teacher education and teacher reflective practice; teacher professionalism and professional problem-solving; pedagogic practice in higher education; the use of constructive on-line learning communities; using ICT for diversification and personalisation of learning supports the development of learning competencies.
