Research Interests
Research Details
Ray’s main research area is in mathematics education, in particular looking at the role of subject knowledge in trainee teachers and their choice and use of mathematical examples, related to their beliefs and prior experiences as learners of mathematics. His doctoral research involved the analysis of several hundred mathematics lesson plans by final year undergraduate trainees as well as semi-structured interviews and a case study approach to identify ways of improving trainees’ choice and use of examples in their teaching. Ray is interested in developing this work to include international comparisons and to explore cross-curricular links.
