What works best in raising aspirations of high-achieving disadvantaged young people into University?
New research funded by the Department of Education (DfE) has sought to find out what schools and colleges are doing to raise the aspirations of disadvantaged young people for University. The research team, led by Professor Carole Leathwood of the Institute for Policy Studies in Education (IPSE) at London Metropolitan University, included recent Brunel appointee Dr Ayo Mansaray, and Dr Sumi Hollingworth at London South Bank University (both at IPSE at the time), and social research company, TNS BMRB. The study involved a survey of schools and colleges in England and in-depth qualitative case studies.
