About Richard

From 2000 to 2006 Richard taught Physical Education in West London schools undertaking several different roles including; PE teacher, School Sports Coordinator and Manager of Teaching and Learning for Physical Education. He combined teaching with two part time roles; working as a football coach at a Centre of Excellence and delivering educational courses for the Football Associations (FA) National Faculty for Education. Prior to this he spent four years living and working in Long Island, New York.

In January 2006 Richard moved to Brunel University as a lecturer in Physical Education (PE). In August 2009 his role developed to lecturer in PE and Sports Coaching. Richard’s teaching responsibilities include lecturing on both undergraduate and post graduate courses in PE and undergraduate courses in Sport Science. He has taught modules in games activity, athletics activity, outdoor adventurous activity, educational studies, physical education and sports coaching and reflection in sports performance.

Income generation

The research in which Richard is engaged also lends itself to income generation through consultancy. Richard has just completed a year long conituning professional development (CPD) programme with The Football Associations Skills and Regional coaches.

Research Details

Richard is currently completing his doctorate research under the broad heading of ‘Sport Coaching as a Educational Enterprise’, with a specific focus on what additional knowledge, skills and understanding community football coaches need to work within England’s National Curriculum Physical Education. His broader research interests include; initial teacher education, teaching physical education in the 21st century, professional development and coach education.
