About Fawaz

Fawaz joined Brunel as a full time PhD student in January 2010 after completing a MSc degree in Sport and Recreation Management at the University of Sheffield.  He is conducting research into the differing financial, planning and management policies used by sports clubs in Saudi Arabia under the supervision of Dr Vassil Girgnov and Dr Laura Hills. 

Outside of his PhD studies, Fawaz is an active member of the Arab Society at Brunel University and was elected Vice-President of Saudi Students Clubs in the UK and Ireland in 2011.  The latter position follows his election as President of the London Saudi Students Club in 2010.  Fawaz was also the Abstract Officer for the 5th Saudi International Research Conference held in 2011.

As a participant in sport, Fawaz is a member of the Saudi Arabian Boy Scouts Association and Youth Welfare Activities Agency.  In 2005, he was manager of the Saudi national tennis team which won the Bronze medal at that years Islamic games.

 

 


Teaching Interests

Prior to becoming a post-graduate student Fawaz was a Lecturer at the College of Physical Education and Sport at the King Saud University in Saudi Arabia.

  • Financial, economic, planning and management policies in sport in Saudi Arabia;
  • Political policies and structures within sport in Saudia Arabia;
  • Sport participation policies in the volunteer, non-profit and profit organisations in Saudi Arabia.
Fawaz has presented his research at conferences, the most recent being a paper entitled "The Role of Finance Managers in Football Clubs in Saudi Arabia" to the 19th Conference of the European Association for Sport Management in Berlin.
