About Brigida

My PhD research project started off with an interest about the marketplace as a place of social relations. The market is an accessible gateway to understanding how people deal with food in their daily life in an urban environment.

At the present moment, I am writing up my thesis, after my fieldwork in Sicily. My ethnographic research has been carried out in Catania's historical market and my thesis will address questions regarding broad topics such as tradition, locality, cuisine, and transactions within the marketplace.

In 2006 I completed a MSc in Medical Anthropology at Brunel University.

Research Interests

Social and Cultural Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, Anthropology of Food, Mediterranean cultures, Gender, Narratives, Space, Memory, Critical Food Geographies, History of Food.
