Research
Research Overview
Broadly, my research interest is in political economy – i.e. the way that economic outcomes are shaped by politics and institutions and vice versa. Currently I am particularly interested in the economics of conflict and how businesses organise in the absence of a government providing law and order. My work on piracy has been widely covered in the media and I also contribute to a World Bank project on approaches to resolve piracy in Somalia.
