27 January, 2012

We are delighted to announce that Professor Justin Fisher is the new Head of the School of Social Sciences. A globally renowned political scientist, Professor Fisher joined Brunel University in 2000. He became Head of Politics and History in 2004, before becoming Deputy Head of School with responsibility for external relations and, more recently, for research. He also runs the University’s MSc Public Affairs and Lobbying programme.

Speaking about his new role, Justin said: “I am delighted to be appointed the Head of such a vibrant and successful School. We have expanded significantly over the past few years and I look forward to steering the School through the next stage of its development.”

Justin is also the founder and Director of the Magna Carta Institute (MCI), one of the University’s high profile specialist research institutes. The MCI aims to research, debate and influence some of society’s key political, legal and social issues.

He regularly acts as an advisor for governmental bodies, which include the Committee on Standards in Public Life and the Electoral Commission. Notably, he is an invited witness at the Political and Constitutional Reform Committee at the House of Commons at the end of the month. This will scrutinise the Government’s proposals for introducing a statutory register of lobbyists.
