Brunel medical sociology research student, John Gardner, has received a prestigious grant to help host a conference on the subject of bioethics. The event will provide a platform to discuss how health professionals perceive and deal with a number of ethical issues.

Media Regulation conference debates the future of public service broadcasting, communication rights and “snoopers’ charter”

On Tuesday 3rd July 2012 the newly formed Centre for Media, Culture and Regulation (CMCR) successfully hosted a colloquium - The Future of Media Regulation: Issues and Challenges.

Dr Matthew Rablen awarded ESRC grant

Dr Matthew Rablen has been awarded £213,000 as part of the prestigious ESRC Research Leaders of the Future scheme. The Brunel lecturer from the Department of Economics and Finance will investigate the optimal design of a portfolio of audit interventions for a tax authority.

Research student awarded prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship to study at Brunel

Former Brunel Master’s student, Tanyel Oktar, has been awarded a prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship for PhD research. She returns to Brunel to carry out her three-year project under the supervision of Dr Peggy Froerer. Tanyel previously completed the MSc in Anthropology of Education in 2010.

Brunel’s Professor Ray Barrell has said that although leaving the Eurozone would have ‘transitory’ benefits for Greece, those of staying ‘may be permanent’.

The Professor of Economics and Finance made the comments when he gave his opinion on Greece and the Eurozone crisis to The Guardian alongside other academics and financial experts last week.

New book explores criminals' attitudes to crime scene technologies

Professor Barbara Prainsack’s new book, Tracing Technologies, which looks at convicts’ perceptions of crime scene technologies, will be released at the start of next month.

The Brunel Professor of Sociology and Politics of Bioscience’s book, which was written with Professor Helena Machado from the University of Minho in Portugal, will be available from 1st May.

Bloomberg access ‘will increase employability’ of Brunel students

Students at Brunel University now have access to the Bloomberg economic and finance data system, and Dr. Russ Moro thinks it will make them more desirable to employers after graduation.

There are eleven Bloomberg terminals on the third floor of the library that are open to all students, and the Economics and Finance lecturer believes that this will boost their CVs.

Students represent Brunel at European Model United Nations

Three Brunel University students travelled to France to take part in one of the most prestigious Model United Nations conferences in the world last month.

The National Model United Nations Europe 2012 took place at the headquarters offices of the Region Nord-Pas-de-Calais in Lille between January 31st and February 6th.
