Politics and History

Politics and History is a well-established, leading Department that regularly scores highly for research and teaching excellence. Our research-active, committed staff offer innovative degree programmes in contemporary politics and history, and provide cutting-edge teaching. Our research was ranked in the top third of UK universities in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008).

History is ranked 10th out of 101 and Politics is ranked 18th out of 75 in the Sunday Times League Tables, 2013. Our students have consistently rated us highly in the National Student Survey (NSS), most recently in the latest 2013 survey, with History achieving 96% and Politics achieving 95% for overall student satisfaction. In the most recent 2013 NSS rankings comparing subjects across the UK, Politics stands at number 1 and History at number 3.

Politics and International Studies at Brunel University is ranked in the elite top 200 in the QS World Rankings. In the 2014 Complete University Guide, Politics has moved up 11 places (30 of 80). In the 2014 Guardian University League Table, History as a subject is ranked 3rd out of 89 in the subject table and Politics is ranked 31st out of 77.
