Centre for Research in Infant Behaviour (CRIB)

What do babies know about the world around them?

At CRIB we are looking at what young babies can see and what amazing things they learn in their first 12 months. You may be surprised at how much your child already knows!

Bring your child

We are always looking for new parents who are interested in learning more about their baby’s development and would like to come along to our Baby Lab with their baby. If you have a baby or toddler or are expecting a baby soon and would like to know more, you can call us on +44 (0)1895 265074 or email us at crib@brunel.ac.uk

What to expect at CRIB

You will be with your baby all the time. Your baby will sit on your lap and watch a few short clips on a television screen or live action; others involve playing with interesting toys. The children who visit the CRIB always have fun.

What we do?

We are developmental psychologists who study perceptual and cognitive development in babies and toddlers. Although our participants are little, our questions are big. Some of the topics we study are: “How babies recognise faces and what it is about faces that make them so interesting?”, “How do babies and toddlers learn categories of objects?”, “When do children learn that other people have minds?”, and “How does humour develop?”.
