I'm currently studying Economics and Management. I undertook a placement in Morgan Stanley where my role was in Derivative Trade Support team. We acted as the main support function to our traders.
From the second week into my internship I was given responsibility for a list of my own clients. My daily duties were incredibly varied, ranging from actively managing client queries to reconciling our traders' risk positions, as well as producing multiple reports on a daily and monthly basis. Hard work and time management were crucial to success within my role, as well as an ability to work well under pressure.
My placement year helped me to develop hugely, not only with my financial product knowledge but also with transferable skills that I will benefit from in my third year and after university.
My advice for anyone looking at similar internship opportunities would be to make sure you take part in extracurricular activities. These show the transferable skills that all employers are looking for. I joined and ran the Brunel Entrepreneurs Society, which I believe significantly helped my application.
