I am currently out on clinical placement at the Evelina Children's Hospital in the paediatric outpatients department, where I see children with musculoskeletal complaints. The physiotherapy course at Brunel prepared me well in terms of what to expect from the patients and the types of pathologies that I have to manage as I was well versed in human anatomy and various common childhood injuries and conditions.
On top of this, I received extra training and support from the therapy team at the hospital. I was also given the opportunity to spend time in various other departments such as the neonatal unit and a specialist haemophilia clinic, which aren't topics we are able to cover at university since they are so highly specialised. A highlight of this placement was being allowed to participate in hydrotherapy sessions, which I really enjoyed.
Support from the University whilst on placement was always in easy reach as tutors keep track of your progress through phone calls and visits. I also felt supported throughout my six-week placement by my clinical educator and the other students who I was placed with. I took a lot away from the placement and it even helped inspire my final year research proposal project and was loosely based on a patient I treated.
