When I received my results and realised I didn’t get my first choice I felt dreadful, I had missed out on my predicted grades of AAA by a few points! My original plan of going to Newcastle University to study Economics was no longer a possibility. I went home and researched online to find universities that were on offer. My best friend was already studying at Brunel and with her experience she persuaded me to call.

I called their dedicated clearing line and spoke to somebody straight away about the course I wanted to study. I gave them my grades and fortunately I was offered a place straight away. I felt so relieved that I had found a suitable place and I was excited to be joining my friend.

I remember arriving on campus feeling daunted. I hadn’t been to Brunel before but everybody was so welcoming and I quickly realised everything I needed was right there, I didn’t need to go anywhere! In my first year I got a part time job, so if I wasn’t studying I was working.

My advice to clearing students… Don’t panic, there are other opportunities, and universities do want you!
