I have recently finished a six week placement with the Respiratory team at Chelsea and Westminster hospital, meaning I am now only weeks away from graduating from Brunel University as a newly qualified physiotherapist.
It had been almost two years since I had completed the respiratory module at university, yet I still felt very well prepared for this placement due to the fantastic way the module was taught and the clear lecture slides and notes I could look over again. On this placement I gained great experience working in a range of settings including intensive care and high dependency care, the acute assessment unit and the general medical wards, practising skills such as assessing for respiratory problems and treating acutely ill patients with techniques such as suctioning and hyperinflation.I have had a great three years at Brunel University. Everyone in the physiotherapy department is approachable, supportive and fun. I have had brilliant opportunities to do things like helping to physio at the London Marathon and completing my entry level award for wheelchair basketball through the department, even getting to play a team of lecturers at the end of the day. It will be a shame to leave, but it is a time I will cherish.
