A new Tutoring@Brunel Hub for tutors is available on Blackboard Learn. You can access the resources under "My Organisations" and clicking "Tutoring@Brunel".
Developed by the Academic Skills (ASK) team as part of the Transition Project, the Hub includes a toolkit of resources to support personal tutors in delivering Tutoring@Brunel sessions. Support services are also signposted to guide you in the pastoral aspects of your role.
From starting to get to know your students with fun and interactive icebreaker activities for small groups, to preparing your tutees for their first university exams - the resources provide a useful starting point for your personal tutoring.
The toolkit resources are designed to promote key areas of skills development for students transitioning into and through Level 1. Each topic includes an example session plan and activities that can be used independently. The toolkit is designed to be a flexible resource that allows you to pick and choose topics and activities to support the delivery of your personal tutoring. It is not a prescriptive approach to personal tutoring, and instead you can tailor it to meet your needs and those of your students.
These resources are available to other HEIs as part of our work with the Higher Education Academy and we are very pleased that the toolkit is currently being used beyond Brunel.
Training and Support
If you feel that colleagues in your department or division would benefit from training in facilitating group tutorials and in using the toolkit, please contact Katie Osmon to make arrangements and discuss your requirements.
