About Poopathy
Professor Kathirgamanathan gained his Chemistry Bsc (Hons) in 1976 from the University of Ceylon, Colombo, and PhD in 1980 from Exeter University. He held a post-doctoral fellowship at Exeter (1980-1982), Senior Demonstratorship at Newcastle University (1982-1986) and joined the Cookson Technology Centre as a Senior Scientist in 1986, before being promoted to Principal Scientist and leader of the Electroactive Materials group. In 1992 he joined University College, London, where he was Manager of the Research Unit for Speciality Electronic Polymers (USEP). In 1993, Professor Kathirgamanathan became a Senior Lecturer at London South Bank University before becoming a Professor in the School of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering from 1995 until his move to Brunel University in 2009, where he leads the Organic Electronics Group in the Wolfson Centre for Materials Processing.
In 1999, Professor Kathirgamanathan founded spin-out company OLED-T Ltd, serving as Executive Director and CTO from 2000 until the company was sold to Merck Chemicals in 2008.
