D3 - Who are we?

The Data-Driven Design (D3) group at Brunel University London hosts a range of research activities at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction, Internet of Things, Augmented Reality and Data Science. It is made up of computer scientists (academic and research students) with interests in End-User Development, Fictional Design and Augmented Reality drawing on data from an intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital Services. It is primarily concerned with the human aspects of digital service design, exploring the interactions between people, technologies and data. A primary focus is on augmenting and extending everyday experiences and the emotional journeys undertaken. The group links into the multi-disciplinary Human Centred Design Institute (hcdi.brunel.ac.uk).

Huda Alhamed

Tommaso is investigating how End-User Development (EUD) tools can utilise a Tangible User Interface-based environment.  More natural interaction within this new application domain might have deep repercussions on future EUD tools.

Nida is using simulation models as a means to explore customer journey mapping of future heritage scenarios. Simulation allows the designer to understand persona behaviour when interacting with new digital services.

Huda is developing a data-driven approach for persona development. Persona specific digital services are tested in a virtual-reality enabled design fiction.

Ehinome Ikhalia

Mike Lakoju

A growth in online social networks (OSNs) has spurred the propagation of malware attacks through social engineering. Ehinome is investigating the determinants of threat avoidance behaviour of OSN users.

Big Data can greatly influence the operation of Organisations, but there is a need to first understand and predict the potential value that can be derived from a Big Data project. Mike is designing a Big data Strategy framework that can be used by decision makers.
