Professor Iden Shams

Research Interest: Medical Devices,  Design,  Ergonomics,  Systems Engineering, Innovation Management, Sensing Systems, Product Development.

Academic Qualifications: BSc (Eng) Mechanical Engineering, King’s College London.PhD, Opto-Electronic Systems, Brunel University.Certificate of Advanced Studies in Learning and Teaching, Imperial College, London.

Academic Experience: Have been involved in teaching and research for 21 years. These years have mostly been spent in the areas of ergonomics, design, mechatronics, instrumentation and biomedical engineering.

Industrial Experience: Have been active in the areas of design, product development and manufacturing for 27 years. These years have been spent in the fields of Optical Systems, Measurement and Sensing System, Automotive and Medical Devices.

Patents: (1) An opto-electronic probe used for coordinate measuring machines. (2) A connector device for safe application of cannulas. (3) A Lung Function Test Device. (4) A novel disposable Tourniquet. (5) Safety Hypodermic Needle. (6) A Spinal Needle and Syringe Connection System.

Dr Tatiana Kalganova

Research Interest: Evolvable hardware, adaptive design, adaptive systems, and artificial intelligence

Current activities:

Algorithms for synthesis and optimisation of sequential logic circuits
Computational intelligence techniques in asset risk analysis
Design large logic circuits using evolvable hardware
Design in 3D space using evolutionary algorithms
Design of intrinsic multi-chip evolvable hardware system
Consumer-triggered EHW
Automatic routing of hydraulic and electrical systems

Dr Susan Grant

Research Interest: lean and agile supply chains across manufacturing and service sectors. Her recent research has focused on the tension between opportunism and forbearance in buyer –supplier ‘partnerships’; the impact of market culture on attitudes and behaviors across supply chain players; and on the generation of values such as trust in global supply chain relationships.

Current Activities: She is currently involved in a number of collaborative projects with researchers across management and engineering disciplines in the area of global supply chain management, and had published extensively in the area.

Academic Qualifications: Susan holds a PhD from Henley Management College and has been involved in the Lean Aerospace Initiative at Cranfield School of Management specialising in lean supply chain management within the domestic and international aerospace markets.
