The TENTH conference on the Mathematics of Finite Elements and Applications will be held at Brunel University during

22 - 25 June 1999
The conference will begin at 10:00 am on Tuesday 22 June and will end mid-afternoon on Friday 25 June. The aim will again be to bring together workers from different disciplines whose common interest is finite element methods, and to promote wider awareness throughout the finite element community of the latest developments in the field.

Conference themes:
  • Theory and practice in finite elements
  • Engineering and scientific applications of FEM
  • Adaptivity
  • CFD and structural mechanics
  • Finite volume methods
  • Boundary element methods
  • Singularities
  • Parallel and vector processing
  • Flow in porous media

Invited speakers:

The 1999 Zienkiewicz lecture will be given by

R Glowinski, University of Houston

The event will consist of:

The internationally recognized MAFELAP conferences have been run by BICOM at Brunel University at three year intervals since 1972. In these conferences exposure is given to research on the theory and practical application of finite element methods.

THE PROGRAMME AND CALL FOR PAPERS

In addition to the invited lectures, the programme will contain lectures in parallel sessions, sessions of poster papers and mini-symposia. If you would like to submit a parallel paper or poster paper, or organize a mini-symposium, please let us know by filling in and returning the form. This can be downloaded either as a Word 6 document or as a PostScript document. Alternatively, if you would like to be mailed a copy of the form please either write to us, or send an email request to: mafelap@brunel.ac.uk.

Following the preliminary announcement of MAFELAP 1999 a large number of persons have indicated that they wish to present papers or organize mini-symposia at the conference. The organization of these is proceeding.

Anyone who has accepted an invitation to participate in a mini-symposium should send the title of his or her talk to the organizer of the mini-symposium as soon as possible. The abstract of the talk should be submitted to MAFELAP electronically not later than 31 March 1999.

Anyone who wishes to present either a lecture in a parallel session or a poster paper is asked to submit an abstract as soon as possible and, in any case, not later than 26 February 1999.

The conference organizers will make every effort to associate talks with suitable mini-symposia.

Persons wishing to organize further mini-symposia are requested to contact the MAFELAP secretary as soon as possible at: mafelap@brunel.ac.uk, or: MAFELAP, BICOM, Brunel University, Uxbridge, UB8 3PH, England, or Telephone: 01895 203270 (UK) or: -44-1895-203270 (international), or Fax: 01895-203303
