Many of you will be starting university this week or next week which can be daunting, but hopefully exciting. The main thing is to make some friends so you can look out for each other. You'll get a lot of information at the start - probably too much to take in. Don't be scared of asking your personal tutor or student mentor to explain things.
Use your university email

Staff will send you important information from time to time to your university email address. So make sure you read it. Also when communicating with staff, use your university email address so we know who we are talking to. To protect students themselves, note that I do not usually answer emails sent from private addresses, especially if it's a sensitive issue.
Respect the rules!

In registering on the CC networks, you have agreed to abide by their rules. Do not attempt any sort of hacking - if you do you'll end up out of the University and in Court. Never share your password with anyone at all. If you suspect your files are being tampered with, see User Support IMMEDIATELY. Change your Network password regularly i.e. every month.
Get to know your staff

Contrary to popular opinion(!) your academic and admin staff want you to succeed and will help you as much as they can. Get to know your personal tutor as soon as possible. On the thorny matter of what to call staff, stick to Dr Deatheater or Professor Strangefeatures for now - later they may invite you to call them Voltan or Brunhilde ... Do not call staff 'Sir' or worse still 'Miss' - they are not schoolteachers.
