The Brunel Hindu Society
is affiliated to the National Hindu Students Forum (NHSF). Set up
in 1991, the NHSF aspires to provide a home away from home for university
students. It represents students from 50 institutes of education
across the country and has emerged as the largest Hindu student
body in Europe. The aim of the NHSF is to provide a platform for
Hindu students to raise issues of concern and to develop a better
understanding of Hindu Philosophy.
This year will represent the fourth consecutive year of existence
for Brunel's Hindu Society. Each year the Hindu society has grown
from strength to strength and this year will be no exception. Around
15% of the students in Brunel during the 2001/2002 academic year
described their ethnic origin as being Indian*. It is fair to say
that a significant proportion of these students are Hindus. The
Brunel Hindu Society aims to build a sense of community within the
Hindu population of the university as well as look after their interests.
There will be a number
of social events throughout the year to encourage our members to
get to know each other and of course to have fun! External speakers
will be invited to the university to give talks on a regular basis.
We will make available a wide range of literature on Hindu Philosophy
to all Brunel students.
In addition, the Brunel
Hindu society will act as a link between the local Hindu communities
and the Hindu students of this university. We will advertise their
activities and actively support some of their events.
We welcome all new students
to Brunel. In addition, we look forward to seeing you join the Brunel
Hindu Society and participate in our events and activities.
