Achieve more with the CIM Gateway at Brunel Business School
Marketing skills are evolving rapidly, and the industry demands a multi-faceted approach, even at entry level. Graduates have to prove that they already have a good level of workplace competence and marketing skills ready to go.
That’s why we’ve teamed up with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) to create programmes that lead to the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing (Level 4) and the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing (Level 6). A CIM qualification is a great way of gaining highly regarded marketing skills, demonstrating to potential employers that you’re career-ready, and making sure that your CV stands out.
Why CIM qualifications and membership matter
The CIM works with leading universities worldwide to offer access to their Graduate Gateway, opening up opportunities to gain further qualifications as well as membership to the leading international professional marketing body. Becoming a member conveys your commitment to a professional marketing career and gives you access to many other resources for networking, knowledge acquisition and career progression. On average, graduates with CIM membership and qualifications gain £152,000 more over their entire career. It is also more likely that a future employer would be open to funding higher level CIM study for you if you already have a CIM qualification under your belt.
'CIM works with leading universities worldwide to award Graduate Gateway status. This gives students the opportunity to gain a CIM qualification or award alongside their marketing degree. Not only will this help improve your employment opportunities, but it will also enable you to transfer your skills into the workplace, meaning you’ll add value to an organisation and be able to adapt to the many roles of a marketer.'

Gain a CIM qualification while studying at Brunel
By joining our CIM Gateway programme, we offer you the opportunity to gain professional marketing qualifications while you study. Because our degree courses already cover some of the content in CIM modules, you are exempt from taking those assessments as part of your CIM qualification, saving you time and money.
When taking the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing (Level 4), you will be exempt from the Marketing and Integrated Communications module. This means you only have to take one assessment in Digital Marketing to gain the full qualification.
Should you pursue the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing (Level 6), you will likewise be exempt from the Strategic Marketing module, and so will only have to pass two modules, Mastering Metrics and Digital Strategy.
Who can access the CIM Gateway?
The Brunel Business School CIM Gateway programme is open to students studying on the following degree courses:
Business and Management (Marketing) BSc
Business and Management (Marketing with placement) BSc
Corporate Brand Management MSc
We also offer access to the CIM Gateway to Brunel Business School marketing alumni who have graduated from these degree courses in the last three years. The additional modules for each qualification must be completed within five years of graduation for the exemptions to still be valid.
How do I claim my CIM qualification?
To claim your CIM professional qualification once you have passed your modules, you must share evidence with the CIM Qualifications team of a valid pass mark in your degree. This would be a 2:2 or higher in an undergraduate degree or a pass or higher in a postgraduate degree.
