Design skills development

When you study a design degree at Brunel, you will be given lots of opportunity to develop your practical and professional skills to prepare you for a bright future.

You will spend a large amount of time in our workshops, gaining skills in taking a product idea all the way from concept to creation, and will learn how to use a range of different design machinery and equipment.

The Design department and students run many events through the year which help you to further develop whilst showcasing your talent and your projects. These include the 24 Hour Design Challenge, the Sketch Off, and our annual Made in Brunel event. Each of these have industry experts present, so you will be able to network, get tips and advice, and be noticed by people who could become future employers.

In your final year of an undergraduate design degree, you will have the opportunity to join the Made in Brunel team. The student team who lead the event gain experience in working as a team, managing a budget, and organising and promoting events – all strong skills for your CV.

Students of all of our undergraduate and postgraduate design courses are also assigned a personal tutor throughout their time here. Your personal tutor will be there to guide and advise you throughout your degree, and will help you to reach your full potential.
