Choose an Economics, Accounting, Banking or Finance degree at Brunel and you’ll receive a unique grounding in the changing ways resources, people and money are managed not only in the corporate world, but also wider society.

What is Economics and Finance at Brunel? Far from just analysing graphs, looking into statistics and predicting growth, our programmes integrate the different concepts of economics, finance and accounting which will inspire you to pursue your interests and help you understand where your strengths and potential future may lie.

You’ll be supported and surrounded by academics who are internationally respected experts in their field and our teaching and learning activities are based on their cutting edged research, meaning you’ll benefit first hand from their work. On top of that, some of our degrees are ACCA and CIMA accredited which is not only an indicator of their quality, but also provides invaluable benefits to you as an economics and finance student once you leave Brunel.

We’re committed to providing top quality Economics, Finance, Accounting or Banking degrees and preparing our students for successful careers, regardless of what your future plans may be.

The work of our department is guided by the following principles:

Academic programmes

You’ll benefit from our flexible course content which help you to develop your financial awareness and gain a strong theoretical understating of economic concepts. You’ll also apply classroom learning to practical, real-world problems. Our small group seminars, 1-2-1 feedback meetings and Tutoring@Brunel programme means you’ll have access to personal support whenever you need it.

Alumni network

Learning doesn't stop once you graduate. It’s a continuous process throughout your working life. We have a strong global alumni network and we believe in the power of networking and the experiences and opportunities our graduates can bring to current students. Once you’ve left Brunel, you’ll also continue to receive support and advice from our expert Professional Development Centre who can help you along your career journey.

Employability

Getting a degree is often seen as a means to an end – the end being the job and career that suits your interest and future goals. Our links to industry, professional exemptions and commitment to practical learning will all help you become a ‘job-ready’ graduate. Outside of the department you’ll have access to our Professional Development Centre who can support you in finding placements and graduate roles and also Brunel's unique Business Life programme which will help you to develop a wide variety of skills employers, in the UK and internationally, look for when recruiting graduates.

Student experience

We believe very strongly in experiential learning by creating an environment in which students can make contact with industry, policy makers and entrepreneurs. Our students have the opportunity to experience what it is like to operate on the trading floor of a stock exchange, face the 'press' in mock press conferences and participate in a wide variety of events. We also have two student run societies which provide company visits, careers workshops and insight into organisations through networking events and talks. They also have their fair share of fun taking part in regular dinners, socials, bowling and the list goes on!

Research

Our academic staff are research active and publish their work in leading international journals. The latest Research Excellence Framework placed the Department in the top 20 for 'Research Power' in the country. The research undertaken by our academics doesn’t just go on to impact local and international communities, it factors into your learning meaning you’ll be the first to benefit from their work.
