Careers and your future in Film Studies
Our graduates have good insight into the working practices of film and media organisations, and the extra skills – like problem-solving and management – required to get the job done. 90% of our graduates are in work or further study six months after graduation.
We’re proud of the way our course directly links students to cutting edge research, but after your first year, 40% of your module choices can be practical, allowing you to apply the theory you have learned to your own work. You can also study film production as a standalone degree.As part of your studies you will have access to our state-of-the-art media services suite which has industry-standard facilities to help you develop the skills needed by media employers, including video production platforms like AVID.
Your course also includes the option of a work placement designed to offer specific training and skills in your particular area of interest — perhaps production, post-production, distribution, exhibition or PR.Our graduates have taken up posts in the film and television industries and in other fields such as journalism, publishing, research, critical writing, arts administration and programming.Past students have gone on to work for companies including the BBC, Granada Television and Ridley Scott Associates in roles as diverse as casting agents, researchers, production assistants and film officers.
