Online English Courses


This General English course is for individuals with a basic knowledge of English Language and would be most suitable for those with a minimum IELTS score of 3.0 in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

Classes take place from 8:30am to 10:30am, 11:30am to 1.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 10:30am, 11:30am to 12:30pm on Fridays (London Time). The course costs approximately £300 per week and full fees or sponsorship will need to be provided before classes begin.

Brunel Language Centre’s Summer English course provides the opportunity to explore a range of English Language topics and skills over the relatively short period of 2 or 4 weeks. During morning sessions students will cover practical subjects, such as English for Business and British Culture. Afternoon classes will focus on essential General and Social English. Participants will be trained in skills to help maximise their English language progress on a short course.

This summer English course is aimed at professionals who would like to improve their English in a variety of contexts:

General English

The primary aims of the General English module are to develop participants’ knowledge of key grammatical structures, and their ability to use them increasingly effectively for the purposes of everyday communication; and to develop their knowledge of high frequency general vocabulary, including a range of everyday functional phrases, lexical sets, and collocations. The course provides relevant practice of the four skills, with the main emphasis on listening and speaking.

Everyday and Social English

The primary aims of this module are to improve participants’ ability and confidence in using natural, idiomatic English in a range of common, everyday situations. Content includes telephone language, useful business expressions, the language of requests, polite intonation and register and common idiomatic expressions.

Topical Discussion

The primary aims of this module are to improve participants ability to talk on a range of topics with a high level of fluency while developing a range of sub-skills, including describing & narrating; persuading; expressing and eliciting opinion; justifying; requesting information; presenting facts and arguments.

English for Business

This module aims to increase participants’ professional effectiveness while enhancing their command of English for professional purposes. 

British Culture

This module aims to introduce important aspects of modern British culture which reflect core values of British life and society.  Comparisons with participants’ cultures will be drawn in order to gain a fuller understanding of cross-cultural interaction, the role of culture in everyday life and its impact on use of language.

 

Participants will also have the opportunity to join our social programme, which includes weekly sporting and social activities and regular trips throughout the UK (e.g. Windsor Castle, Cambridge). Find out more here.

Our seasoned tutors will explore the best methods and strategies to deliver effective and engaging English Language classes, with the aim of maximising student progress.

This teacher training course is aimed at teachers of English at secondary and tertiary level and gives insight into current methodology in the UK.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • evaluate current coursebooks;
  • to gain a better understanding of the factors influencing fluency and accuracy;
  • to gain a better understanding of barriers to learning;
  • to explore a range of techniques to enhance learning;
  • to reflect on and improve one’s own teaching practice;
  • to explore the use of current technologies in the classroom;
  • to consider principles of test writing;
  • to enhance error correction.

Our online English Language learning is Face-to-Face – you will see your tutors and fellow students for a minimum of 19 hours a week, you will receive a free digital course book and have one-to-one tutorials with your personal tutor. Maximum class size is now 12.
