Using the archives
***UPDATE: 30/03/2022 ***
Brunel University Archives, including the BFSS Archives, has relocated from the Old School House into the University Library. We are now offering a joint service with Brunel Special Collections.
We are now operating a joint enquiry service. It is still the case that not quite all of our archives and collections are physically accessible to us, and we are still a member of staff short, but we are doing our best to answer enquiries.
Our Reading Room is now open by prior appointment only, subject to staff availability and the accessibility of the collection you wish to view.
What you’ll need to present
All researchers are required to produce proof of identity and will need to complete a Reader Registration form on their first visit.
In line with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Regulations, the general records held in the University Archives are open to the public, unless specific exemptions apply. Records containing personal data may be exempt from disclosure under GDPR.
Unable to visit the Reading Room?
We provide a research service for those unable to visit the Archives in person.
Charges for our research service 2022:
- £7.50 for an initial look up, i.e. a person, particular school
- £7.50 per 30 minutes for more detailed research, time to be capped by you
- Further charges for photocopying or scanning may apply – please contact us for details.
We normally try to undertake the research within 2 weeks.
We cannot undertake complex research or data analysis on your behalf. In this case, you are welcome to arrange an appointment to visit us.
