Academic related support and how it can help you

An opportunity to meet some of the key personnel within the University with whom you will be in contact during your time with Brunel University, starting with a member of the Academic Skills team.

The Academic Skills (ASK) service supports Brunel students by helping them to develop the skills they need to learn independently and thrive academically, whatever their level or subject. This will be followed by a chat from a member of the Professional Development Centre (PDC) who can advise on work placements, careers and part time jobs while you study. The PDC has been voted by Brunel students as one of the best career services in the UK and they are here to support your career development and enhance your employability at every step of your journey.

Carry on with some information on our online teaching platforms, Blackboard Learn and Wiseflow which is the online tool you will be using to upload most of your assignment work

This will be followed by an opportunity to meet your Student Union Rep (VP-CEDPS) Eshna, who will be telling you all about the Student Union, her role and how she can help you during your time at Brunel.

Civil Engineering Group Project on Why Things Stand Up (Activity)

This project will be focused on working out how some of the Worlds icon structures work. What loads are they subjected to? Where do the structures get their strength from? What kinds of forces are the structures subject to? Could the structures ever fall down?

Introduction to the project: You will be given a short presentation and discussion on the task followed by a Q&A session and you will be assigned to groups. You can use this time to familiarise yourselves with your group members and the project.
