Your campus

We have made a raft of exciting changes to our campus this year to improve the student experience:

  • New food outlets on campus:  New Taste Kingdom food and drink outlets opened across campus. With new click and collect services, queues have significantly reduced. A new payment and reward app was launched which you can download here.
  • Building for the Future: Work is now well underway for our exciting new Learning and Teaching Centre to create a new ‘student heart’ and ‘landmark building’ at the centre of campus which will mean the demolition of John Crank in 2019. The new Wilfred Brown building, linked to the Michael Sterling building by a shared atrium, opened and is now home to Computer Science and our new state-of the-art Security Operations Room.
  • Crank Gardens: Created improved outdoor social and recreational space and moved the outdoor gym so it’s easier to find
  • Lecture Centre: Completed our refurbishment programme of the flat classrooms with the replacement of furniture underway, and installed black-out blinds so that you can see the screens more easily when the sun shines. Plans are in place to improve our AV/IT systems and to refurbish the small lecture theatres. The foyer is being enhanced to make it more welcoming and will feature the University’s first video wall as well as soft seating and open study space. This is just the start of a campaign to improve all teaching and social learning spaces across campus.
  • Bannerman foyer: Refurbished the foyer and created new social seating areas including lockers to help students who live off campus
  • Elliot Jacques: Created additional space for law students
  • Amazon lockers:  Three dedicated Amazon locker areas were installed on campus from where you can pick up your discounted orders.
  • Costcutter:  The shop has also been extended and has had a make-over and new self service tills.
  • Accommodation: on-campus: We carried out a refurbishment of Mill Hall as part of a £6 million investment and introduced 300 x £500 accommodation bursaries; a partnership between the University and the students’ union. We refurbished our campus laundry facilities over summer 2018 and launched WhatsApp Groups for each Hall of Residence to help you stay in touch with each other.
  • Accommodation: off-campus: We launched a new ‘live chat’ facility to make your search for the perfect student house easier and introduced an appointment system so that you can speak face-to-face with one of our advisors. Over half of the Brunel Student Lettings properties were refurbished in 2018 with properties that are available in 2019 advertised from November 2018. Launched a new online maintenance reporting tool, Fix Flo, to help you report any maintenance issues quickly and easily
  • Accessibility: Improved and enhanced accessibility in a number of our buildings as well as the pedestrian bridge across the River Pim. New accessible gym equipment will soon be available within the Indoor Athletics Centre.
  • Green campus: achieved Green Flag status ie one of the UK’s very best green spaces in recognition of our grounds and biodiversity. Led by the Union of Brunel Students, we are working to have a plastic bag free campus.
