Your health and wellbeing

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing for Students: launched a new strategy with a commitment to deliver on a range of actions; “Find your happy” launch event included inspiring personal stories with details on the range of services on offer here to support you
  • Student Health Guide: gave all our new students a Guide which included information and guidance as well as details on the range of support and services available to improve your health and wellbeing
  • Report and supportintroduced a new tool you can use to get help and support if you have experienced sexual violence, harassment, bullying and domestic violence or if you are worried about your mental health or the mental health of another student
  • New Student Centre: our new Student Centre opened in the Howell building giving you one place to access all services via our new Student Support and Welfare Team, they can advise you on support available and refer into other services including the Disability and Dyslexia Service and the Counselling and Mental Wellbeing Service. You can now book same day appointments to see our advisors and counsellors. We employed four Mental Health Advisors to work with you to help you get the best out of your studies. You can now get in touch with the team in one place who can work with you to identify which service/s can help you and then make all the appointments for you.
  • Specific Learning Difficulty: If you are diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty (SpLD), you can apply for a Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), which pays for your support; most university students have to pay the first £200 towards the cost of their computer, however here at Brunel, we cover that cost for you.
  • Active@Brunel: For a small one-off payment, you now have access to a fantastic range of non-competitive activities; the programme has been enhanced in response to your feedback.
  • Gym membershipIntroduced a new direct debit gym membership option and abolished the peak and off peak membership to everyone can benefit from any time access during gym opening hours
  • Arts: Improved the Brunel Arts programme year on year
  • Medical Centre: Students living on campus can now register online for the Medical Centre. Additionally, the Medical Centre is using an appointment service for students. This will provide an opportunity for you to get an appointment at different surgery times and not be limited to the old drop in hours.
  • Sensory roomCreated a new safe space for those with sensory processing difficulties as part of our whole university approach to wellbeing; one of the first permanent rooms of its kind at a university in England
  • The Meeting House: Your faith and Spirituality Centre: Refurbished the centre and gave it a new name
  • Sanitary products: these are now available for free on campus.
  • Bikes on campus: after a successful campaign, Brunel will have its own public Santander Cycles scheme on campus in March 2019 with a number of docking stations around campus as well as in Uxbridge Town Centre and at Hillingdon Hospital
  • Community policing and security: invested heavily in training including mental health first aid and incident management to ensure your experience is safe as well as fun
  • Safety: kitted out our Security team with body worn video so as to offer greater transparency for those in front as well as behind the camera
  • Blackbullion: launched a new finance education platform to help you learn about and manage your money, savings, taxes and student funding
