Brunel University welcomes Korean Olympic team to campus

The Korean Olympic team arrives on Brunel University's campus on Friday 20 July for their pre-Games training camp.

The team are making use of campus facilities including the sport halls for wrestling and handball, and the exercise studio for boxing. In addition, they are taking advantage of top class facilities within the London Borough of Hillingdon including the 50m swimming pool at the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex in Uxbridge.

Amongst the Korean athletes training at Brunel are a number of defending Olympic champions in sports such as Badminton, Swimming and Taekwondo. The Republic of Korea finished seventh in the medal table in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and are the most successful team in Olympic history in Archery and Taekwondo. 

The team’s training camp at Brunel has attracted huge media interest back home, with a number of top TV channels and newspapers covering the team’s arrival on campus including the major TV channels SBS and KBS and the newspaper Chosun. 

The athletes and their coaching team will remain on campus until the Games end on 12 August.
