Canadian athletes welcomed to campus for Paralympic Games

Brunel University welcomes Athletics Canada's Paralympic team to its campus in Uxbridge on Wednesday August 22. 

The 22-strong team along with 14 support staff will hold their pre-London 2012 training camp at the University for four days, before moving to the Olympic Village. The Paralympic Games open on Wednesday 29 August.

Brunel's Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Mariann Rand-Weaver noted that not only does the campus boast excellent sports facilities, but that the University has also conducted cutting-edge research into factors that could influence the performance of Paralympic athletes. 

“We’re delighted that the Athletics Canada Paralympic team have chosen to base their pre-Games training camp at Brunel University,” she said. “The Paralympic Games promise to give us an awe-inspiring fortnight that we will all be sure to remember.” 

Laurier Primeau, Head Paralympic Coach for Athletics Canada, added: “The accommodation and athletics facilities on the Brunel campus are as good as anywhere in the United Kingdom and we’re looking forward to conducting our final preparations there.”

Alongisde the athletics team, Canada is bringing a total of 145 athletes to the Paralympic Games to compete in 15 sports, including archery, boccia and sailing.
