OBE for Professor Peter Beresford
Professor Beresford, who is describes himself as an “ 'out' mental health care user“ is co-author of “Making User Involvement Work.“ He joined Brunel as a lecturer in social work in 1990 and became a professor in 1998.
“As a long-term mental health service user, it is a wonderful feeling, first to have been able to become a professor, and second to have achieved this formal recognition from the Queen,“ he said.
“At a time when mental health service users are more often the focus of public anxiety and stigma, this is a real statement that mental health service users have something to offer. We can contribute and we should not be written off.“
