Clarifying career goals

I am very grateful for your support over the past week. You went the extra mile by sharing your expertise and answering a million questions in no time. Truly appreciated!

I am pleased to share with you my joy and gratitude for completing the Masters of Science programme at Brunel University London. It has truly been a wonderful journey. I am so happy that I got to meet and work with so many incredible people, yourself included, and have learned so much throughout.  I have truly been grateful for your support throughout in preparing me for my first job as an OT. It is so important for us students to have advisors like you, who is so passionate in supporting students and making them believe that they can achieve more than what is expected of them. I cannot be more thankful to have met you and it was so nice to have worked together for a bit.

I was offered the Internship position yesterday and I would like to express my gratitude for your assistance and thank you for letting me know about the job role!

Don't think you've failed if you don't find work or the next step that you want. It takes time to work out what you really want and you're not the only one that feels that way. Use the resources you have to help you - the careers centre at Brunel was an amazing help for me personally.

They assisted me greatly when I came to study as a mature student. When I thought opportunities might be limited and unavailable to me the careers consultants instilled confidence in me and encouraged me to apply. The PDC has earned the respect of both students and academic staff alike due to their knowledge, guidance, approachability and assisting students past and present.

I really appreciate your feedback, and it truly has given me better hope and confidence in finding a job.

You have helped me immensely with my personal development and career path. You assisted me in receiving offers that have kick started my career as a Designer. I want to thank you for all the help and I hope you carry on the amazing work with more students, giving them the best outcome of their studies.

I've done go through the draft of my CV and read carefully the commentary and the suggestion given by you. I'm so grateful and pleased with the amendment and suggestion that give such massive changes and managed to highlight my objective career and also my strength. You have been extremely helpful through this journey of my career path especially in job application. I am indebted to you and also to your colleague.

I met with my new manager and my new mentor on Friday and they greeted me with ‘welcome to the team!’  I honestly could not have succeeded in interviews without your advice and encouragement. Prior to your services, I did not have a clue where to begin. I have learned so much and it is important to acknowledge your contribution to my success in being offered my new role. Thank you.

Applications and CVs

I have read through your suggestions and I appreciate the additional time you spent to better improve my application. The suggestions are fair and I will look to improve the application following your guidance.

Many, many thanks for your valuable feedback! I could not agree with you more on the points made - I still need to very much bridge the gap between my experience and what they are looking for. However, I can also see some fair improvement in comparison to my initial cover letter draft - again, thanks to your advice. I've never ever had such a detailed and thorough critique of anything I've written before.

Skills development and employability workshops

Hope you're well! Just wanted to thank you for organising the talk for level 1 computer science students. It was very useful and I feel it was done in a very engaging and interactive way for all of us. From what I felt everyone really enjoyed it and found it quite useful. Thank you, I really appreciate it :)

Thanks for getting back to me - I really enjoyed your talk on the business school placement day and have been meaning to meet you since. (If only we had lecturers like you!)

I would just like to say the talk really inspired me to get going immediately.

Thanks again for your help, the interview preparation really helped. They really enjoyed talking about my work and how I overcame design challenges, as well as talking about my role and how I worked in the Made in Brunel team.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your help and support and most importantly organizing the undercover event.

Thank you ever so much, I am so grateful and you've made me feel so optimistic about the future! I will definitely look into all the links and apply to a few roles and come speak to you soon. I honestly found it all so interesting! Also thank you for the workshop it was very useful.

Thank you so much the career conference was so helpful and motivating!

Going the extra mile

Thank you so much, I realised when you sent the email! wow overtime, I'm grateful.

    • It was so nice meeting you last week, thank you for all your help. It has motivated me and given me some confidence.

I just wanted to stop by to say a massive thank you to you. I'm involved in the summer work placement scheme and you helped me to work on and improve my CV and cover letter so that I could apply to Fortuna Healthcare. Our appointments included MANY follow ups, since it was my first official time applying and making a CV and cover letter. I just wanted to let you know that because of all your wonderful help, after only applying to Fortuna with the CV and cover letter you helped me to improve, I got an offer with them today! I believe that my success was mainly down to all the great effort you put in to helping me have a great cv and cover letter and I couldn't not stop by to tell you that I'm really grateful for all your work and thank you very much for all the time you put in to dedicate yourself to making us more equipped for the working world.

Thanks for your suggestions with my CV - and for giving them on a day that you're not even supposed to be working. I can't believe getting rid of the boxes freed up so much space! It still fits on two pages.

  • Thank you soooooo much with your help on the CV. I really appreciate you taking the time during your break to help me out - I can see a lot of effort was put in! I totally agree with all your suggestions and have made all the necessary changes.

I don't think I've received quite as much support from an advisor as I have from you, and I really genuinely appreciate knowing I can ask you for guidance or information and you're on hand with helpful ideas!

I will writing to the PDC about the help you provided me with I want this to be recognized. So grateful to have such an amazing careers adviser.

Just finished going through your audio attachment, which was extremely helpful, and I can see what I need to do now. I really appreciate you taking out that extra time, as I know you must already be busy.

Feedback from employers and staff

Thanks again for all of your help with this internship, I have really appreciated it. We are really excited about Katerina joining us on Monday :) (EMPLOYER)

Thanks so much for stepping into the breach this morning; much appreciated! I didn’t end up being as late as I thought I was going to! It sounded as though the students were getting a lot from your support. (LECTURER)

  • Thank you so much. I can’t describe how thankful I am to have your help and support with this. Everything looks great to me. (EMPLOYER)

Coming back for more

I hope you've been doing well —I am afraid to write to you with some bad news. I have just last week been made redundant. I am certain you must be very busy with all the students, but is there any chance you could lend me some of your guidance? I recall your feedback and help so fondly, and it just resonated with me the strongest out of all the tips and advice I've been receiving in the past years.

I was moved by your high quality consultation and passion. It was an amazing tutorial. The audio adviser worked very well and so much helpful to understand. I booked another appointment on Friday. I will bring the revised version of my CV following your advice.

  • I am currently in the process of filling out paperwork and would like to inform you that I will be putting your name down as a reference, as you have been like a mentor to me through this process.

Thank you for all the advice (at very short notice) last week. The interview went well, but it was a long day - presentation with 15ish  postdocs, lunch with the other candidates and a panel interview! But, yesterday I got offered the job :) which I am over the moon about! I can’t wait to get started, but I will be in and about Brunel for the next month, so it would maybe be quite nice to come and chat to you again about going forward with additional courses and skills for myself.

I am ever delighted to tell you that I have progressed to the next stage. I just wanted to ask few questions in terms of how I should prepare for this. Please advice me as much as you can and any pointers, or anything you would like me to look at and practice.
