Advice and Representation Centre - Housing Fair Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

The Advice and Representation Centre is a service provided by the Union of Brunel Students. We provide a free, confidential and non-judgemental service for all students at Brunel University.

We are independent of the University; this means we can represent you in your dealings with the University without a conflict of interest.

We offer practical advice on all kinds of subjects relating to student life; university procedures, housing, student funding, budgeting, debt negotiations, and other issues

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

The housing Fair will take place over a week and will be held during the week beginning 15th February 2021.

Ordinarily this would be a physical fair held on one day with a few Estate Agent stalls and a physical presence but with the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic it is mainly going to be online.

I am offering different ways for agents to engage with the students this year, knowing that campus is bound to be quieter than normal. I am offering the below options to agents:

-          To engage with students in one day or over the period of the week.

-          To be on campus (Hamilton Foyer as normal) for one or more days during the week.

-          To be online only, effectively recreating the stall scenario but via zoom (or another platform).

-          To do a bit of both, on campus for a day and then online for the other days.

Skills Required:

-          Engaging with students.

-          Confidence to approach students and abide by the restrictions in place at that time.

-          Confidence in online platforms such as zoom, teams, skype.

-          Good communication.

-          Reliability.

-          Approachable.

-          Organisational skills.

Additional Benefits:

  • Hours volunteered will be recorded on your HEAR – which goes on your permanent university record.
  • All hours contribute towards your Brunel Volunteers Award, which leads to an invitation to the annual Brunel Volunteers Awards Ceremony in May.
