Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is an international health agency providing health and social care in Africa and the Diaspora such as the UK. Its main activities are disease prevention, treatment and medical research and development. Our mission is to lead strategic collaborative efforts among countries in Africa and other partners to promote equity in health, to combat disease, and to improve the quality of, and lengthen, the lives of the peoples of Africa. Our vision is delivering high quality sustainable health service and be the major catalyst for ensuring that all the peoples of Africa enjoy optimal health.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

We are looking for a proofreader/copy-editor who is in-charge of making sure that the text of AHO Strategies and Plans of Action publications are free of any errors, whilst ensuring that texts are engaging and accessible to the readers.

Proofreading and copy-reading ensure that material is clear, consistent, complete and credible, and that text is well written, grammatically correct and accessible. You are required to correct spelling, grammar and layout, check content, impose consistent styles and reword or rewrite

Duties and Tasks:

Below highlights major tasks, duties, and responsibilities:

  • Read and correct spelling mistakes, written text for grammatical and typographical error
  • Ensure page numbers are in the right order and not repeated or omitted
  • Analyse documents to ensure chapter titles match list of contents

Skills Required:

The following are important qualities and attributes you are be required to have to qualify:

  • Education and Training: Studying degree most preferably in English, Journalism, Science, Health, Medicine, International Development, or Mass Communication, or in a related field.
  • Attention to details: Able to identify and rephrase grammatical errors
  • Spelling/Grammar Skill: Able to correctly assemble words and apply them in writing.
