Brunel Exercise4MyHealth Programme Facilitator



Details of the Charity:

The Exercise4MyHealth programme is a weekly adaptive exercise class for members of the public living with long-term health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, chronic airway disease, heart failure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease. The exercise classes are designed specifically to implement best-practice guidelines using a tailored approach. Sessions are most Monday and Friday mornings and delivered on campus by Dr Jennifer Jones (Reader in Physiotherapy at Brunel University) accompanied by students volunteering their time from the Department of Clinical Sciences.

The programme is supported by a strong partnership with Brunel Sport. Its key objectives are to: Enhance quality public engagement and community health; Enrich the student experience; Address priority health needs by driving cardiovascular research in disease prevention and rehabilitation; Produce and disseminate new knowledge that contributes to the health of communities and individuals.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

  • Students currently studying either BSc or MSc (Pre-Reg) in Physiotherapy can volunteer.
  • Sessions take place on a Monday form 9.15am – 12.15pm in the Netball Hall at Brunel University and on Friday’s from 9.45am – 11.15am in the main gym at Brunel University.
  • Exercise4MyHealth facilitators have to undergo a full induction process with the programme’s lead prior to being able to volunteer in the sessions.
  • Volunteers assigned to sessions attend and support participants in their exercise programme. These participants are affected by a range of chronic health conditions that all benefit from a tailored physical activity programme.

Skills Required:

  • Current Student from BSc or MSc Pre-Reg in Physiotheraoy

Additional Benefits:

  • Training and skills development in exercise prescription in cardiovascular health.
  • Once certain competences are achieved, volunteers are rewarded with the achievement of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificate of Achievements which will strengthen their CV's.
  • Hours recorded on your HEAR – which goes on your permanent university record.
  • All hours contribute to your Brunel Volunteers Award, which leads to an invitation to the Brunel Volunteers Awards Ceremony at the end of the year.
