Brunel Volunteers - BRUfrienders

Details of the Charity:

Brunel Volunteers is committed to helping our students find meaningful volunteering opportunities to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge with the aim of boosting employability. Volunteering is a great way of giving back to society and connecting with a local community.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

BRUfrienders is a Brunel University initiative, which will see student volunteers support their peers who are currently isolating.

COVID has and continues to impact us all. For some, this means isolation for 14 days, which can be for a variety of reasons, either way, isolation is still a lonely and vulnerable time. BRUfrienders is just one part of a larger support plan to aid isolating students through their 14 days, aiming to make their time a little more comfortable.

Brunel has many support systems in place, however, some additional help is needed and so we are looking for volunteers who are interested in giving their time to carry out simple tasks, all of which will be to further support fellow students in isolation. This will all be done without having to come into contact with students in isolation. Some examples of possible tasks include, collecting parcels for distribution and delivering them to halls, picking up prescriptions from the on campus or a book from the library.

How will BRUfrienders work?

Isolating students will simply submit to us an enquiry form, explaining what support they need. We will then reach out to the registered BRUfrienders and ask for a volunteer to carry out the task, providing a timeframe and further instructions, the first volunteer to respond to the task will then be allocated to the task. From time to time we may call you to see if you are free to carry out a task. Some tasks will be more urgent than others. All volunteer hours as a BRUfriender will be counted towards your Brunel Volunteers Award.
