Circles South East – Circles Volunteer
Details of the Charity:Share this
Circles London is a part of Circles South East, which has extensive experience of working within the Criminal Justice System. The Circles Project takes a generic approach to tackling sexual crime and the impact of sexual crime. By helping sexual offenders to reintegrate safely into the community we reduce the risk of their sexually re-offending.
We achieve this through bridging the gap between communities, an offender and professional agencies so that the offender can be managed safely. Similarly, we also offer supportive services designed to assist those impacted by sexual abuse.
The Project consists of a team of specialist professionals who recruit, train, and manage volunteers working with convicted sexual offenders. All volunteers working for Circles London receive initial and ongoing training and are professionally supervised.
Circles London is first and foremost a public protection agency working with and for the community. The project is based on the principles of inclusion, restorative justice and bringing together the community to enhance public safety.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
A Circle is essentially a group of trained volunteers working with a high risk sexual offender (Core Member) in their community, reducing isolation and loneliness reducing the risk of reoffending.
Volunteers are also equipped to monitor the behaviour of their Core Member, assisting Police, Probation and other partnership agencies in the management of that person’s risk. Our number one priority is safer communities.
All volunteers working for Circles London receive initial and ongoing training and are professionally supervised. Once trained, volunteers work within a small group to support an individual who has been convicted of sexual offences (a Core Member). They will meet for a couple of hours a week to offer support whilst holding them accountable for their actions and contributing to effective risk management within the community.
PLEASE NOTE – for insurance purposes all volunteers must be aged 21+ Volunteers need to be able to commit to meeting for a few hours once a week over a period of 12-18 months to support one Core Member.
No prior skills or qualifications are requires as full training and regular supervision are provided. Volunteers need to be reliable, committed and able to work as part of a small team.
